While the poem in the Rime (1598) has the name 'Batto' in the first line, and in the poem's earlier appearance in the anthology Rime di diuersi celebri poeti dell'età nostra, the name appears as 'Bacco', both Giovannelli and Colombi change the name to 'Tirsi'. Furthermore, Giovannelli removes the word 'dolcissimo' from the seventh line.

Una rosa, cred'io, di paradiso;
E sì vermiglia in viso
Donandola si fece, e sì vezzosa,
Che parea rosa, che donasse rosa.
Alor disse il pastore,
Con un sospir dolcissimo d'amore,
Perche degno non sono
D'haver la rosa donatrice in dono?
