I heard a fiddler in the street,
The tune he played was very sweet;
I stood and stared, and stared and stood,
The music was so very good;

Fiddle de dee, fiddle de dee.

I could have listened all the day,
So blithely did the fiddler play;
But soon I saw the hat come ’round,
So thought it best to leave the ground,

Now, when you’re walking down the street,
If you should hear some music sweet;
Remember that you do not stay,
Unless you can the fiddler pay,
