Biography
George Balch Nevin was born in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. He was educated in the public schools, the Cumberland Valley State Normal School, Lafayette College and studied voice and conducting with Julia E. Crane. He became a conductor, organizer of singing societies, and a church singer. Believing that much of the church music sung in choirs was mediocre, he worked to create music for the church choir. The bulk of his compositions were songs, anthems, and part-songs.
