Biography

Peter John Paul David was born in Leipzig, Germany. His father was Ferdinand David, a famous German musician who was leader of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, teacher of the great violinist Joseph Joachim, and Mendelssohn’s closest ally. He trained in Germany and was brought to England to be the first Music and Choir Master at the Uppingham school, the first appointment of its kind at any school. Under his leadership, the school became recognized for excellence. He died in Headington, Oxfordshire, England.
