English text
Sweet are the strains of wind-harp a playing,
Softly and dreamlike the sounds glide along;
But to my ear, more sweetness conveying,
Cometh like magic the beauty of song.
Beauty of song, Beauty of song,
Cometh like magic, the beauty of song;
Sweet all the sounds at day’s rosy ending,
But naught’s so sweet as the beauty of song.
Like to the waves of billowy ocean,
Feelings awakened by musical tongue;
Sorrow or joy, or love, the emotion,
Matchless remaineth the beauty of song.
Sweet is the sound of bells that are charming,
But, though bewitching, it is not so strong,
Nought is like words in numbers and rhyming,
Fraught with the wonderful beauty of song.
Sweet is the strain of raindrops descending,
Dancing like fairies the shingles along!
Sweet all the sounds at day’s rosy ending,
But naught’s so sweet as the beauty of song.
