English text
Since first the Earth on its course begun,
The seven seas have been leagued as one;
In their fell purpose to blight and blast
The rock-hewn walls that have held them fast.
With close clenched fists or with open hands
They beat the shores or they scoop the sands;
And still with fury and wild uproar
Is waged the battle of sea and shore.
Though mad seas thunder at cape and rock,
The Earth forever hurls back the shock.
From thick walled fortress that proudly rears
Its head unshaken a thousand years,
Nor feels the billows that foam and leap,
But hurls them back to the misty deep.
And still with fury and wild uproar
Is waged the battle of sea and shore.
While manmade nations shall rise and fall,
And change forever must come to all,
As long as seasons shall come and go,
As long as waters shall ebb and flow,
The rockbound coast and the storm-tossed deep
Their old time purpose must ever keep.
And still with fury and wild uproar
Shall wage the battle of sea and shore.
