Angel dal Ciel dicese
In bel sembiante humano
Scopre à Donzella humil,
Il Rè del Ciel soprano,
Per ristorar' il mondo,

Ave di gratia piena:
Teco è'l Signor potente,
Come clemente sei Tu dolc' e pia,
E del suo amor' ardente,
O benedetta VERGINE MARIA

Ave beata, e santa
Di Fio Gran Genitrice,
Porta felice à noi del Paradiso,
Ove' il tuo amor n'allice:
Fà che godiamo in Ciel del tuo bel viso.

Ave del Ciel REGINA,
De gli Angeli pur Donna:
Alta Colonna à noi di speme in terra,
Qua giu stendi tua gonna
Per velo, e scudo force in tanta guerra.

English translation

An angel descended from Heaven
in handsome human form
explains to a humble woman
how the King of Heavens becomes flesh
to restore the world and save it.

Hail blessed and saint
mother of God,
for us auspicious door to Heaven
whence His love beckons us;
in Heaven, let us delight in your pretty face.
