English translation

1. Glorious the day that now comes 'round
and our rejoicing knows no bound:
for Christ, our Lord, in triumph reigns,
all of His enemies in chains.
Alleluia!

2. The ancient devils, sin and death
and hell and mis'ry, want and dread
has Christ defeated. Victory!
O’er death He triumphs gloriously!
Alleluia!

3. Death now must own this great defeat,
and life, victorious, take his seat,
death is destroyed and all its pow'r;
Christ now has life returned to flow'r.
Alleluia!

4. For sun, for earth, for creatures all,
gone are the woes that cast their pall,
this day rejoice and sing aloud.
The Prince of Earth now lies in shroud.
Alleluia!

5. Now our great joy is justified,
and alleluia rightly cried,
Lord Jesus Christ, in praise to Thee.
Our Comforter, aris’n is He!
Alleluia!
