The process of posting scores at CPDL is as simple as A, B, C ...

A: Uploading your files

1. Upload the file(s) to CPDL by clicking on "upload file" under "toolbox" on left side of most CPDL screens - including MAIN screen

a: click "upload file" under the "toolbox" heading

b: See the "Upload file" page appear with its fill-in form - ignore references to IMAGEs - this is the right form for all uploads

c: Click on <Browse> button

e: navigate in your computer's file system till you can pick the file to upload - In windows you would click to select the file - click on <open>

f: When you have picked the file it automatically appears in the "Destination filename" box - leave it as is if you are happy with it.

g: In the "Summary" box type in the description you would like added to the upload log so our Admins will know what it is you are uploading - ie/ Midi file for Mozart's "Ave Verum"

h: Type your choice of copyright notice to "Copyright status" box to aid admins in processing your file. - "Copyright assigned to CPDL" or "Personal Copyright" are two common choices.

i: In the "Source" box type in the source of your score file. - "Public domain score" or "Midi file" are two common choices - or exact scholar's public domain score: "Johannes Brahms Soliche Werke, vol. 21"

j: Then click the <Upload> button - your score should upload

K: You will see a page with heading "Image: (your-filename-appears-here) ie/ Image:Bennett-Abide_With_Me-bck.sib and under the heading you see: Bennett-Abide_With_Me-bck.sib (38KB, MIME type: text/plain) <-- your name, #s will be different. This will be clickable name of the file you just uploaded - RIGHT-click on this hot-link (your-filename) spot - write down file size for later use - then select "Properties"

l: Highlight the URL of this file you just uploaded - copy it to a text file (to add, by pasting, later into the Add-Works form). - My example file was: http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/images/6/6c/Bennett-Abide_With_Me-bck.sib

2. Repeat this above procedure (a - l) for every file you want to make available on CPDL

B (optional): Adding a composer page to CPDL

Skip to Step C if you want CPDL ADMINs to add your new composer

3. Check if Composer of the work you want to upload is already listed on CPDL's Composer Page

a: In Left hand side of CPDL's MAIN Screen under "navigation" - Click on <composer pages>

b: Click on letter of alphabet that your composer's last name starts with

c: In the lower section of page which appears: Articles in category "Composers" - find your composer's name

d: If your composer is there, notice the exact spelling, special characters, etc of the composer's name - open a text file and cut and paste name in if it helps - you will need the EXACT name later - ie/ the composer "A. V. Nikolsky" would need to be typed exactly as shown - periods, spaces, etc. Any composer name with special characters (eumlauts, accent graves, etc) may need editing later - check for this.

e: If your composer's name is not listed you need to add a composer page first - If your composer is listed, skip to STEP-5 below.

4. Add your new composer to the composer page - done simply by making a "Composer" page - the list of composers is automatically updated.

a: In Left hand side of CPDL's MAIN Screen under "navigation" - Click on <composer pages>

b: Click on the TOP (to left of the letter A of alphabet at top of the screen) to get to the composer page template file

c: Under &, click on "Template:Composer template" - click on EDIT tab - use curser with left-click-and-drag to select ALL text in edit window - <ctrl>C to copy it into paste buffer.

d: Use browser's <Back> button once to get back to "Template:Composer template" page. - see URL of http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Template:Composer_template

e: Change url to http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/your_composer_name_here - ie/ http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Mary_Smith and hit <enter>

f: You will see:

Mary Smith <-- Your-composer-name-here

(There is currently no text in this page)

g: Click on the TAB "edit This page" - you will see the edit screen open up for entering text into the (Mary Smith) composer page.

h: Click anywhere in the large edit window, and then type <ctrl>V to paste in the buffer (it holds the composer template text) into the edit window.

i: Edit in the specifics of your composer you are adding into your copy of the Composer Template file, making it specific for your composer - The work you are adding will replace the text shown below - later - when you do the ADD-Works form.

D: Incorporating Add-Works form generated text into your specific Composer and Works/Edition pages - Test your newly-made links

1. As instructed in the generated text from the "Add-Works" output page by cutting and pasting the one line into the composer page - replacing the template text:

2. (or do 3 ) - Make a new works page for your specific work, by clicking on the newly made RED entry in the composer page, and then pasting in the text from the "Add-Works" output page as it instructs you to do. Press <show preview> to see what your page will look like - fix any typos - <show preview> again - till you are happy with the works page you are adding - then click on <Save> to save the new works page on the CPDL Wiki.

3. (or do 2) - Add your score to an existing works page - to create what I call an "Edition Page", or edit an existing "Edition Page". To do this click on the link on the composer page corresponding to the work you want to add your edition to. When the works page / Edition Page comesup click on the EDIT tab at the top of the page. Above the first score entry in the page add just the generated text from the "Add-Works" output page which starts with

  • NewScore.gif ... and ends with :Edition notes: then press <show preview> to see what your page will

look like - fix any typos - <show preview> again - till you are happy with the edition page you are modifying - then click on <Save> to save your newly modified Edition page on the CPDL Wiki.

4. Test from Composer page entry - click on link for your new work - see your specific new "Works" or "Edition" page

5. Check categories at bottom of page - look for RED links in new stuff - edit as necessary. RED links mean they link to a page that doesn't exist. At the end a page with RED links on it usually means there is a typo in the link you added, or the category you used.

6. Try each link for Midi, PDF, Notation file - check out the file they point to (The URL is shown at the botton of your browser screen when you "Hover" with the mouse-curser over a "hot link".) Make sure each of these links load ok when you left-click them - edit entries that have problems or put in the {cleanup} flag anywhere in your page if you need someone else to help you cleanup the errors on your page.
