English text
Beneath these walls, what various scenes conspire
To dart heroic ardour through the soul:
Britannia's genius aids the kindling fire
And bids her thunders o'er the fancy roll.
But while the nations meet in hostile arms
And high th'imperial banners wave in war,
Let varied science here display her charms
And weave fresh garlands for the victor's car.
