Biography

Daniel Shryock was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania. He became a music teacher in Erie and Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Hannibal, Missouri. He later became a faculty member at Washington University, Saint Louis, Missouri; and taught music in the Minneapolis Public Schools, Minnesota. He wrote many books, including “Music in the Public Schools,” “The golden key to musical truths: for the use of public schools, juvenile classes, seminaries, and the home circle,” and several pedagogical manuals. He wrote a number of part songs. He also patented a device for hanging and displaying charts. He died in Minneapolis. His son John was also a successful music teacher.
