Biography

James Richard Dear was born in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, England, and trained at Westminster Abbey and the University of Durham. He was organist at the Church of St. Giles, South Mimms, Hertfordshire; St. Luke’s, Uxbridge Road; St. James, West Hampstead; and St. Saviour, Eastbourne, Sussex. He was active as a. teacher, directed the Eastbourne Choral Union, and authored the book History and Description of the Organ and Programme of Recitals. He died in Eastbourne. His compositions include service music, choral works, songs, and part-songs.
