Hear, O heavens! and give ear, O earth,
I, the Lord, have spoken it.
I have nourished and brought up children,
But they have rebelled against me.
(Isaiah 1:2)
Ah, sinful nation. (1)
The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master's crib,
But Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
A people laden with iniquity,
Seed of evil-doers,
Children that are corrupters,
They have forsaken the Lord their God,
And provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger most bitterly.
(Isaiah 1:4}
The whole head is sick, and the whole heart is faint;
From the sole of the foot, even unto the head,
There is no soundness, but wounds, bruises, and putrifying sores.
(Isaiah 1:5-6)
Except the Lord of Hosts had left us a very small remnant,
We had been as Sodom, and like to Gomorrah.
(Isaiah 1:9)
Wash ye, make ye clean,
Put away the evil of your doing from before my eyes.
Cease to do evil, learn to do well,
Seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, and plead for the widow.
Come now and let us reason together, saith the Lord:
Though your sins be red like crimson,
They shall be white as snow. (2)
(Isaiah 1:16-18)
Enter into the rock, and hide thyself in dust,
For fear of the Lord, and the glory of his majesty,
When he arises to shake terribly the earth.
(Isaiah 2:10)
Hallelujah, Amen.

(1) French has "Ah, simple nation."
(2) As in French; King James has "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
