English text
The quiet Water-lily
From the blue lake rises up,
The leaves are glistening and flashing,
And white as snow the cup.
The moon from out the heavens
Pours all her silver beams—
Pours down into its bosom
The light in shining streams.
Around her in the water
Circles a snow-white swan;
He sings so low, so sweetly,
On the flower looking down.
He sings so low, so sweetly,
And in singing would die away;
O flower! snow-white flower!
Canst thou not rede the lay?
