English text
Run, run, my boy, you’ll be too late,
You’re full a mile from the station;
Time, tide and train will never wait
For the best man in the nation.
I’ve run four miles in breathless haste,
My horse broke down in the lane,
So I must go by the “marrowbone stage”
If I want to catch the train.
The paths are rough, the roads are bad,
They put me quite in a passion;
And, worse than all, I’ve spoiled my clothes
Just made in modern fashion.
How disappointed I shall feel
If I should be too late,
For just outside the terminus
My sweetheart sure will wait.
